Minister Dhaka beat Fortune Barishal by four wickets in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Sher-e Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Monday.
Andre Russell’s unbeaten 31 off 15 powered Dhaka to register their first victory in BPL. Dhaka chase down 130 runs with four wickets and 15 balls in hand.
Dhaka were in deep trouble after losing four wickets in quick successions and reduced to 10-4 with Shafiqul Islam causing the maximum damage. Then Mahmudullah and Shuvagata Hom took the charge and build up a 69-run partnership.
Shuvagata returned after scoring 29 off 25 while captain Mahmudullah fell short of three runs to score a fifty. He departed on 47 off 47 deliveries aided by three fours and a six.
Shakib al Hasan took the wicket of Mahmudullah, which is also the 400th wicket of his T20 career.
Earlier, Barishal scored 129 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs after being invited to bat first. Chris Gayle top-scored with 36 runs off 30 balls hitting 3 fours and two sixes for Barishal.
Barishal made a shaky start as they lost their first three batters within 23 runs during the first powerplay. Openers Shykat Ali and Najmul Hossain Shanto were dismissed on 15 and 5 runs early.
Shakib played a knock of 23 off 19 balls which featured two fours and a six before being edged off Rubel Hossain. Then DJ Bravo scored 33 off 26 which propelled Barishal to muster 129, setting the target of 130 runs.
