Bangladesh cricket saw various ups and downs in 2021. The men's cricket team of Bangladesh had an unfruitful T20 World Cup 2021 campaign. They also lost a handful of Test series at home.

Two of Bangladesh's men's cricket team's notable successes were winning the T20I series against Australia 4-1 and New Zealand 3-2 at home.

The Bangladesh Women's National Team had a successful year as the Bangladesh women's team qualified for the ICC One-Day International World Cup in 2022 after winning a bilateral series in Zimbabwe.

Shakib became the highest wicket-taker in the T20I

Shakib has taken 117 wickets in the International T20, making him the leading wicket-taker in this version of cricket. During the T20 World Cup, he surpassed Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga. Tim Southee is currently ranked second on the list. Only four bowlers have taken 100 wickets in the T20I format so far.

Shakib also set a record of 4,000 runs and 200 wickets in Test. He became the only cricketer in Bangladesh to achieve such a feat. He touched the milestone at home against Pakistan this December.

Bangladesh won most number of T20 matches in one season

Bangladesh played 27 T20I matches in 2021, winning 11 of them. Which is the record for winning the most matches in a single season in Bangladesh's history. Previously, the Tigers had won a maximum of seven T20 matches in a single season in 2016.

Mahmudullah is the most successful captain of Bangladesh in T20

Under Mahmudullah's captaincy, Bangladesh has won 15 T20 matches in 2021. In this format, this is the most victories won by any captain in Bangladesh's history. Bangladesh competed in 38 matches under his leadership.

Naim Sheikh's highest run for Bangladesh in one season in T20

Swashbuckling batter Naim Sheikh scored 575 runs in T20 for Bangladesh in 2021. Which is the most for any Bangladeshi batsman in a single T20 season. With 496 runs, Mahmudullah is ranked second on this list.

Bangladesh women team earn maiden ODI Cricket World Cup berth

Bangladesh national women’s cricket team qualified for the ICC Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup for the first time. The Bangladesh team started well in the qualifiers, taking the first match against Pakistan by 3 wickets. They then thrashed the US by 270 runs, with Sharmin Akhter scoring Bangladesh’s first-ever century with the bat.

However, the qualifiers ended early due to concerns about the COVID-19 situation in Africa. The qualification slots were decided by team ranking.
