Zakir, Soumya shine on Day 3 with tons

Islami Bank East Zone vs BCB South Zone

Islami Bank East Zone scored 195 for 5, lead by 26 runs at stumps against BCB South Zone during the league matches of Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) on Tuesday.

Afif Hossain’s unbeaten 73 on Day 3 helped East Zone take 26-run lead in reply to South Zone’s 429 runs in the first innings.

South Zone resumed on 288-6 with the overnight batters Mahedi Hasan 28 and Zakir Hasan 91 on Day 3. Mahedi returned for 32 but Zakir carried on with tailenders at the other end and scored 158 runs off 276 balls with 19 fours and 2 sixes.

Nasum Ahmed made a stunning half-century to add 59 runs which guided the team to set mammoth total of 429 runs and a lead of 169 runs.

Nasum and Mahedi took a couple of wickets, the duo made five-wicket haul in the first innings.

BCB North Zone vs Walton Central Zone

BCB North Zone scored 172 losing five wickets, still trail by 172 runs at stumps during the league match of Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.

Marshal Ayub and Mahidul Islam Ankon were batting on 28 and 0 at the close of day’s play.

Earlier, Walton Central Zone resumed the day on 430-2 with Soumya Sarkar 39 and Salman Hossain Emon 40 not out. Soumya hit a ton and Salman completed half-century on Day 3 to put Central Zone on top.

Salman hit 53 facing 77 deliveries aided by 4 fours and a six before getting out. Soumya was unbeaten on 104 off 148 with 10 fours and a six. Apart from them Mosaddek Hossain scored a fifty for the side and declared their innings on 563-3.
