The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed on Thursday that Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the five-match T20I home series against Australia next month (July 22). Mushfiq did not begin the 10-day mandated quarantine, which is required of any cricketer who enters the bubble from the outside.

Cricket Australia (CA) and the BCB have agreed to comprehensive pandemic precautions, which include a 10-day quarantine that started earlier this week.

However, Mushfiq chose to skip the Zimbabwe series in order to be with his parents, and as a result, he had to enter quarantine by now in order to be considered for selection. BCB attempted to convince CA to shorten the quarantine period, but the latter refused.

“Cricket Australia refused our offer. There doesn't seem to be anything else to do about it. Since there is a rule, it must be obeyed” BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said to media Thursday.

Bangladesh-Australia five-match T20I series is set to start from August 3 as both team will arrive in Dhaka from the West Indies and Zimbabwe respectively on 29th July after finishing their ongoing series. Australia are due to board a charter airplane from the Caribbean to visit Dhaka.

According to the schedule, the second match of the series will be on August 4. Then there is a break on 5 August. The last three T20s will be on August 6,7 and 9.
