Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for May 2021. Mushfiqur played one Test and three ODIs against Sri Lanka in the month of May.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on June 8th announced the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month Awards for May to recognise the best performances from both male and female cricketers across all forms of international cricket.
“First of all I would like to thank the ICC for nominating me for the month of May. Huge thanks to those who voted me. I think it is not just for me but also an achievement for Bangladesh. In Shaa Allah, I will always try to become more than Player of the Month. I want to maintain this consistency throughout the year. So that I can give better innings to Bangladesh and a lot of match winning innings” said Musfiq in a video massage.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahman nominated for this award for the first time. Along with him Pakistan's Hasan Ali and Sri Lanka's debutant Praveen Jayawickram was also in that list.
The experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiq showcased his full class in the month of May. He scored 80 runs at an average of 40 in the first Test against Sri Lanka.
But it was the ODI series against the same opposition, where he displayed his world-class ability with the bat. In three matches, Mushfiqur scored 237 runs at an average of 79 and a strike rate of 88.43.
The veteran's knock of 125 in the second match helped the hosts seal a first-ever ODI series victory against Sri Lanka. For his contributions, Mushfiqur has rightfully adjudged the Player of the Series.
On the other hand, All-rounder Kathryn Bryce from Scotland was deservingly voted the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for. She is the first player from Scotland, male, or female, to make it to the top 10 of the batting or bowling lists in the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings released recently.
Kathryn played four T20Is against Ireland where she scored 96 runs and took 5 wickets with an economy rate of 4.76 in the month of May.
