The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to take place in April. However, the venues of this cash-rich league are yet to be decided now. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had decided to host the entire tournament in six host cities which didn't go down well with many.

Meanwhile, scheduling a tournament like IPL can be tough amid the crunch time of COVID-19. Moreover, the league comprises several franchisees and every franchise wants home games as they will be played in India this time. On the other hand, on Sunday, Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao had appealed to BCCI on Twitter to host a few matches in Hyderabad whereas Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has shared his thoughts after figuring out that Mohali might not be conducting any of the IPL matches this season as well.

However, the BCCI has shared that the IPL Governing Council is yet to come out with a final list of host cities. Meanwhile, the development came after seeing the recent rise of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai which was earlier decided to be one of the venues. As of now, the board will wait a bit and watch the condition.

"As if now it’s all speculation whether it’s Punjab or Hyderabad. We will soon have IPL GC in which we will decide what needs to be done and how the IPL needs to be conducted this year, as of now nothing has been decided yet. BCCI will seek assurances from state governments before allowing them to host the matches," a source within the board said to ANI.

"Whether it can be held in a state while elections are taking place and when talking about Punjab, BCCI needs concrete assurance from authorities that no unwanted incident will take place when the matches happen there," the source further added.
