Root ranked 4th highest Test scorer for England

England captain Joe Root has hit a magnificent 186 on day 3 of the second Test in Galle on Sunday.  He became the 4th highest Test scorer for England surpassing Kevin Pietersen and David Gower. Root scored a double century in the first Test match of the Galle Test series.
 
England started the day with 98 runs for 2 wickets.  Wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow could not accompany captain Root for long. He returned with 28 runs also Daniel Lawrence could not add more runs.  He returned with 3 runs.  For the fifth wicket, captain Root made a new partnership of 97 runs with Jos Buttler.
 
Buttler was dismissed by Ramesh Mendis and returned to the pavilion with 55 runs. Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya did not give anyone a chance to take a wicket on this day.  He hunted down Sam Curran, Dom Bess and Mark Wood. On the other hand, Root's innings of 186 runs ended in a run out.
 

England ended the day with 339 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.  Jack Leach, will start the fourth day with the last batsman James Anderson. Embuldeniya took 7 wickets with six maidens and spent 132 runs in 41 overs.
 
Earlier, Sri Lanka made 381 runs by batting first. Angelo Mathews, played an innings of 110 runs.  Besides, 52 runs came from the bat of captain Dinesh Chandimal. Then Niroshan Dickwella's 92 and Dilruwan Perera's 67 runs ensured Sri Lanka's big collection.
