Two West Indies debutant, batting allrounder Kyle Mayers and slow left-arm orthodox Akeal Hosein have shinned despite the visitors lost to the host Bangladesh by six wickets in their first ODI in Mirpur Wednesday. Mayers (40) who was only had a good day in the office, while Akeal have grabbed three wickets in defending a low target.

The Caribbeans could not put big total in front of the Tiger bowlers as all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan got four wickets and newcomer Hasan Mahmud had three, restricted the visitor at only 122 runs. Only Mayers putted a fight and he was ten runs away from his maiden fifty. He was disappointed in match result which hides his performance for him but appreciate the experience and took some positive vibes from this match.

“Playing ODI for the first time was a great experience. The situation was not ideal but we gave our best and hopefully we will win the next match. I also think batsman need to bat a little longer. The situation needs to be better understood. Hopefully there will be a better score in the next match. Got a good start but nothing to be too happy about. Because the team was struggling but I could not take the team to 50 overs but I am taking some positive things from this match.” said Mayers during virtual interview after the match.

The chase was not smooth for the hosts because of Akeal hosien as he seized three wickets out of four and slowed the victory for Bangladesh. 27 years old was happy about his performance despite the lost.

“It was a good experience. We gave our all. Unfortunately, at the end of the day the results were not in our favor. I am quite happy with my performance. But not being able to win the team will always work in your head. I hope I can come back well in the next match.” said Akeal.

The second match of the series will be held on Friday in the same venue.
