Bangladesh former ODI’s skipper Mashrafee bin Mortaza said that bowling in the right areas proved dividend in the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

Mashrafee, who returned to competitive cricket after a gap of eight months as Gemcon Khulna signed him up in the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup in the midst of the tournament, picked his maiden five-wicket haul in T20’s that helped Khulna beat high flying Gazi Group Chattogram to reach the final of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

Mashrafee said seniors to encourage him as it helped him regain his confidence and make a comeback into competitive cricket.

‘’Playing cricket during the last eight-nine months was not easy for me. I mean not ideal for me but the senior cricketers of the side encouraged me and gave me a lot of confidence,’’ said

‘’Cricket is a game of mentality but the time was very difficult. It was not easy to be corona positive. I was trying to be fit but I had hamstring injury but I was not ready to give up. I was confident that I could play. After picking a couple of wickets my confidence began to grow,’’ he said adding that batsmen set up the platform for the bowlers to bowl with freedom.

‘’They were chasing 210 so they had to play strokes and we knew if we can bowl in the right areas we will succeed despite licking some runs. I think if we had scored 180 or 190 it would have helped them but the extra 20 runs gave us the freedom to bowl,’’ he said.
