Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque will require operation for his thumb injury that ruled him out of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup, said Bangladesh Cricket Board official on Monday.

Mominul injured the finger while playing for Gazi Group Chattogram against Gemcon Khulna at the Sher-e- Bangla National Stadium November 28.

Mominul injured his finger while fielding but did not felt any pain and as a result came into bat but after returning back to hotel condition of his finger started to deteriorate.

‘’He (Mominul) will need an operation,’’ BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury told reporters on Monday.

We are yet to decide whether it will be done in the country of abroad but sending him abroad is not easy at the moment because certain thing like visa and quarantine is involved with it

‘’He needs the operation immediately so we are discussing whether we will do it here or abroad.

‘’Certainly, he is ruled out of the ongoing tournament while it is too early to comment about his availability in the West Indies series,’’ he said.

West Indies are due to visit in January 2021 for a tour comprising three Tests, three ODIs and two T20Is during their stay.

Meanwhile, Chattogram can breathe a sigh of relief considering they will have Mahmudul Hasan in their squad as the Under-19 batsman recovered from corona and joined them in the ongoing tournament.

Chattogram is yet to decide about having a replacement.

According to Bangabandhu T20 Cup handbook in case of any injury/illness/unavailability of any player, teams may request for replacements. The replacement player has to be of the same or lower grade and from the unsold players’ list.
