Bangladesh lost to India in the Under-19 Asia cup semifinal in a breathtaking encounter at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Losing such close match in a semifinal, took its toll on the under-19 boys’ mental.

But on a personal note, promising leg-spinner Rishad Hossain had a very good tournament. Rishad, who took eight wickets in four outings, played a big part in Bangladesh's success. In an interview with Cricfrenzy, Rishad talked about his experience playing in the Asia cup for the very first time.

Cricfrenzy (CF): What's your parents view on a loss like this?

Rishad Hossain (RH): What would they say! Bad luck!

CF: India did well when they put on a good partnership in the middle overs. But you and [Towhid] Hridoy pulled it back with 4 quick wickets. What did you talk about at that moment?

RH: We planned to bowl dot balls. We wanted to build some pressure. They always bat aggressively. [You give a] couple of dot balls and they start to open up and hit boundaries. We wanted to use that in our favor.

CF: Were you guys confident enough when they put 172 runs on the board?

RH: We were confident about our bowling but our batsman did not play well. They are not playing well at the moment, we are all very new at this level, we will learn as we go.

CF: Being a new team, was there any fear of failure?

RH: Every new team has gone through this. We will do well when we overcome the fear.

CF: You batted up the order in the semi-final against India, what was the plan behind that?

RH: They wanted me to block, but the plan did not work out. Now I am working on my batting, hopefully I will do well in the future.

CF: How do you see this Asia cup campaign for Bangladesh?

RH: Our start was not very good. But we came back hard. Actually, if our batsmen batted well, we would have done better.

CF: How do you judge your own performance?

RH: I did not think about my own performance when I bowled. My target was to fulfill the team’s requirement.

CF: You did not bowl in the powerplay in this tournament. If the team needed, can you bowl with the new ball?

RH: Yes, I have been working on my new-ball bowling. I have got good control over new ball as well.
