Bangladesh former captain Tamim Iqbal backed underfire Shakib al Hasan despite his poor run of form and he believes the all-rounder will soon make a strong comeback in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Shakib has been struggling in T20 format for a while and his struggle continues in the T20 World Cup as well as he scored only 8 and 3 runs in the last two encounters.

Shakib has scored only 69 runs in seven matches this year with a strike-rate below 100 and has not taken any wickets in four of his last five matches.

The all-rounder also underperformed in the previous two T20 World Cups, scoring 131 runs in six matches in 2021 and only 44 runs in five matches in the last T20 World Cup.

In the recent match against South Africa, Shakib scored three runs during their 114-run chase and remained wicket-less which they eventually lost by only four runs.

"He has [gone through] this kind of lean patch before. He has a lot of experience and I am sure he will come good. He is a very big player for Bangladesh," Tamim told ESPNCricinfo.

"He has done a lot of good things. He has achieved a lot individually. For the last one year, he has not been scoring heavily but I have the belief that he will figure out a way to contribute with both the bat and the ball," he added.
