There is some relief regarding the uncertainty surrounding pacer Taskin Ahmed ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. Bangladesh are suffering from their lowest level of performance in the ongoing series against USA sans Taskin as they lost series with one game in hand.
However, the experienced pacer may be fully fit before Bangladesh's first match in the T20 World Cup.
With doubts about Taskin's recovery, he was still included in Bangladesh's World Cup squad. Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu had mentioned during the squad announcement that the pacer might be available at some stage of the tournament.
Holding onto that hope, Taskin traveled with the team and it has now been reported that the injury to his right rib is healing well.
Chief selector Gazi Ashraf provided an update on Taskin's latest condition on Saturday while speaking to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“Our physio Baizid (Baizidul Islam) has informed us that Taskin is recovering faster than expected. He is responding well. They are hopeful that after another assessment on the 31st, Taskin might start bowling from the 1st, if everything goes according to plan,” Lipu said.
“For now, he will probably focus on strength and fitness training. We hope that by the 5th, he might be bowling with a full run-up. This is the plan. It's all tentative. Not everything goes according to plan always. Sometimes it may progress faster, other times it may slow down.”
Taskin sustained this injury while fielding in the fourth match of the T20 series against Zimbabwe at home earlier this month. Consequently, he missed the final match of that series. The scan report conducted at that time was not officially released.
Bangladesh's first match in the World Cup is against Sri Lanka on June 7 (6:30 AM Bangladesh time on June 8).
