Several media claimed a report was filed by RTI activist Pandit Keshav, which alleged that Australia's Mitchell Marsh's actions of dropping his legs on the World Cup trophy have deeply offended the sentiments of Indian cricket team fans.

However, there was No FIR lodged against Marsh as later it was learnt that there were no such incidents and Media outlet The Quint stated that the complainant, Pandit Keshav confirmed filing a complaint but not an FIR.

Keshav believed that Marsh’s act disrespected the nation’s religious and cultural sentiments. He claimed to await police proceedings but asserted his intention to move to court if needed.

Keshav sent letters to the prime minister and the Sports Ministry, urging a lifetime ban for Marsh or, at the very least, a denial of an Indian visa.

The incident occurred after Australia defeated India by 6 wickets in the World Cup 2023 finals. India, after a flawless campaign, faced a disheartening defeat against the Aussies in the final.

The activist forwarded a copy of the complaint to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging that strict measures be taken against the Australian cricketer.
