Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a 24-member squad for the ODI series and 20-member squad for the Test series for the series against West Indies. To keep the 2023 World Cup in mind, BCB selectors have named a young squad and surprisingly, Mashrafee Bin Mortaza couldn’t find a place in the squad.

For the first time, two new players have earned their maiden call-up – Shoriful Islam and Parvez Hossain Emon. To prepare new players for the mega event, the selectors have taken the step of dropping Mashrafe, informed the main selector of Minhajul Abedin Nannu.

He said, ‘obviously, we have the focus on 2023. We have a lot of matches since 2021 – be it Tests or ODIs so we have decided to keep a big team. Even we are following the plan of team management.’

He further said, ‘We have faced a lot of issues. Overall, the team management has given a lot of plans and we have been working according to the plans. We have taken the call after a lot of discussions while keeping the future in mind.’

Bangladesh will play after nearly 10 months as the COVID-19 hit the entire world and postponed every event. They will play three ODIs and two Tests against Windies in the ongoing month. However, they failed to keep up the pace as they weren’t in action for a long time. But, they are expected to do well against the West Indies.

Nannu again said, ‘We have to give the chance to young players. So, we have taken this call and started in a new way. After 10 months, we all have started afresh as well and we are hopeful of a great start with the West Indies series.'
