Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed has acknowledged the challenge of facing Australia but believes Bangladesh can carry their recent momentum into the upcoming white-ball series against the cricket giants.

Speaking after Eid prayers on Thursday, Taskin described Australia as one of the toughest opponents in world cricket but said Bangladesh are optimistic after a strong run of performances across formats.

“Playing against Australia will definitely not be easy. They are a tough opponent. But we are also hopeful. We have won our last few series and if we can maintain this consistency, then In Sha Allah we will improve a lot further,” Taskin said.

Bangladesh recently enjoyed a successful stretch, winning ODI and Test series against Pakistan. They also defeated New Zealand in an ODI series and drew the T20I series 1-1, while earlier series victories came against Ireland in both Tests and T20Is.

Taskin also extended Eid greetings and reflected on the special feeling of celebrating the occasion at home.

“Eid is always special. Whenever I get the chance and remain in the country, I try to offer prayers at this Eidgah ground. By Allah’s grace, it is a different kind of feeling. Pray that Allah keeps me healthy,” he added.

Australia last toured Bangladesh in 2021, when they suffered a 4-1 defeat in a five-match T20I series. Before that, the two sides met in a Test series in 2017, where both teams won one match each.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is expected to announce the ODI squad on June 1 ahead of the upcoming series.
