India are scheduled to tour Bangladesh in September for a bilateral series featuring three ODIs and three T20Is, which would mark the Indian team’s first visit to Bangladesh in nearly four years.

However, uncertainty remains surrounding the series following political developments and tensions between the two countries after changes in Bangladesh’s political landscape in August 2024. Reports suggest the tour could depend on approval from the Indian government.

Despite the concerns, BCB ad-hoc committee chairman Tamim Iqbal expressed confidence that the series would proceed as planned.

Speaking to Times of India, Tamim said: “We have a scheduled series against India this year and I am very hopeful that India will come to Bangladesh and play the full series. It is a bilateral series that people in Bangladesh truly enjoy.”

“Fans come to the stadium and we see highly competitive cricket. Bangladesh performed very well in the last series against India. Whenever these two teams play, especially when India tour Bangladesh, it always becomes competitive,” he added.

Tamim also emphasized the importance of maintaining communication between the cricket boards to resolve any differences.

“There will always be challenges and it is the responsibility of cricket boards to solve them. We now have a new cricket board and an ad-hoc committee. I am sure communication and discussions will continue. Whatever happens, the most important thing is for cricket to win,” he said.

According to the announced schedule, the ODI matches are set to be played on September 1, 3 and 6, followed by T20Is on September 9, 12 and 13.

The tour could also carry added significance, as Indian stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who now only play ODI cricket after retiring from Tests and T20Is, are expected to be available.
