Bangladesh produced a confident all-round display to defeat New Zealand by six wickets in the first T20I in Chattogram, chasing down a challenging 183 with 12 balls to spare.

Put in to bat, New Zealand posted a competitive 182/6, powered by half-centuries from Katene Clarke (51 off 37) and Dane Cleaver (51 off 28).

Captain Nick Kelly added a brisk 39, while Josh Clarkson provided late impetus with an unbeaten 27.

For Bangladesh, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was the standout with 2 wickets, while Mahedi Hasan, Shoriful Islam, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib chipped in with a wicket each to keep the visitors in check.

In reply, Bangladesh paced the chase superbly despite a few early setbacks. Towhid Hridoy led the charge with a brilliant unbeaten 51 off 27 balls, anchoring the innings under pressure.

He found strong support from Parvez Hossain Emon, who smashed 28 off just 14 deliveries, and Shamim Hossain, whose explosive 31* off 13 balls sealed the game in style.

Earlier contributions from Saif Hassan (17) and Tanzid Hasan (20) helped set the platform, although New Zealand briefly fought back through Ish Sodhi, who picked up two wickets.

However, Bangladesh’s aggressive middle-order ensured there were no late hiccups, as they reached 183/4 in just 18 overs.

With this win, Bangladesh take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, continuing their strong momentum after the ODI series triumph.
