The Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to take over catering responsibilities in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), replacing the traditional team-managed food system with more fitness-oriented meal plans.

Previously, DPL teams arranged their own meals, which often included rice, mashed potatoes, and beef.

However, under the new initiative, the board will ensure that players receive healthier food that supports performance and fitness.

BCB president Tamim Iqbal announced the move during a press conference in Mirpur, acknowledging that the transition may not be easy for all players.

“I understand that shifting suddenly from a habit of rice-based meals to something like grilled chicken may not be easy,” Tamim said.

“National team, Under-19, or ‘A’ team players might be used to it, but for domestic cricketers, it’s a big change. Still, we will try to ensure the food is prepared healthily.”

Tamim, who retired from international cricket in January 2025 and took charge of the BCB’s ad-hoc committee last month, also highlighted new safety measures for the upcoming season.

Following a serious health scare he experienced while playing in last year’s DPL, the board will now provide ICU-equipped ambulances at venues. According to Tamim, four to five ambulances will be available across six venues during the tournament.

“I believe it is the BCB’s responsibility to ensure everyone’s safety. We will do whatever is possible, there will be ambulances at every ground,” he said.

The new edition of the Dhaka Premier League is set to begin on May 4.
