Bangladesh Women’s U-23 captain Lata Mondal said they are poised to play ‘good cricket’ rather than have vague expectations from the upcoming Emerging Women Asia Cup.

Lata will lead the Bangladesh team in the eight-team-based tournament, scheduled to be held in Hong Kong, starting on June 10.

When Lata was asked about their goals ahead of the Emerging Women Asia Cup 2023, the captain said they are prepared to play good cricket only.

“We are eyeing to play good cricket. I don't know about the rest. No, there is no specific goal like (the semi-final, or final). We are not worrying about being champions. Our goal is to play good cricket,”

However, head coach Hasan Tillakaratne was very optimistic about the team doing well.

“Our team is very good. A great mix of experience and youth. We have a good chance. Confident about the team as a coach. We have to focus match by match. I am sure, we will achieve positive results,” he said.

Bangladesh women's team are placed in the 'B' group in Emerging Asia Cup where they will compete with Malaysia, United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh will play their first match against Malaysia on June 12, Sri Lanka on June 14 and United Arab Emirates on June 16.
