Pathirana included as Sri Lanka name squad for CWC Qualifiers

Sri Lanka announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe.

Matheesha Pathirana has been included in the traveling squad after making his One Day International debut just this month against Afghanistan.

Veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews has been dropped from the squad, the right-handed batter was dropped from the last two games against Afghanistan.

The slingy 20-year-old quick took 19 wickets in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), helping Chennai Super Kings to the title.

Notably, the SLC also confirmed that former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene, who is a consultant coach for the national team, will travel with the squad for the crucial qualifiers.

CWC qualifier is set to begin on 18 June, with ten teams competing for the final two spots in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup that will be held in India later this year.
