Bangladesh star opener Tamim Iqbal is set to miss the rest of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as he is suffering from an old back strain, confirmed by Khulna Tigers head coach Khaled Mahmud on Tuesday.

Khulna have two games remaining but they are already out of the playoffs race.

Bangladesh will play a home white-ball series against England from March 1. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will want to full fit Tamim in the World Cup Super League series as BCB don't want to take any risk.

"Tamim has a back strain problem for which he took an injection from Bangkok some days ago. But the problem aggravated," Sujon informed to the media.

"Since England series is coming up and Tamim Iqbal is the captain of ODI team, we have decided to not to play him for the remaining two matches in BPL. Hopefully the rest will help him get the full fitness ahead of the series."

While his team failed to make it last four stage, Tamim also couldn't live up to the expectation. Even though he made 302 runs in 10 matches at an average of 33.55 and strike rate of 122.26, he was not as consistent as Khulna needed.

He has also suffered a groin injury. Due to that injury, he did not play the series against India at home last year.
